Week By Week Pregnancy Guide Weeks Twenty Two To Twenty Four

Week Twenty Two

By now baby weighs around a pound and is still thin but highly developed. Eyelids and eyebrows are now formed and the brain begins rapid growth. If your baby is a boy, his testes have begun their descent from the pelvis to the scrotum.

Continued weight gain may start to give your back ached, Try to wear low heeled shoes and avoid adopting the same posture i.e. sitting or standing, for long periods of time. When you are sitting, try to place a footstool so as to raise your knees higher than your hips. If you find yourself suffering from leg cramps, you may be suffering from a shortage of calcium.

Week Twenty Three

The baby’s body is becoming more and more in proportion with every day. If born now, your baby has a chance for survival. If you are expecting a multiple birth, the babies may sleep and wake at different times and as there is still room to move around, you may experience kicks, jabs and tiny punches. You may even see the skin of your abdomen move as the baby moves.

Week Twenty Four

The baby will gain around six ounces this week. Most of this weight is in muscle, bone and organs and tissues. If born now, your baby should have a fairly good chance of survival, although they would be in intensive care for many months.
