Week Twenty Eight
Eyebrows and eyelashes form this week and the head hair is growing. The eyelids open and the eyes are completely formed. The body fat has developed and the baby’s body is getting plumper and rounder. Muscle tone is developing and the lungs are capable of breathing. The baby will also be able to recognize your voice. If born now, your baby has a ninety per cent chance of survival.
This is the start of the third trimester. Your uterus is three inches above the navel, and average weight gain is between seventeen and twenty four pounds. If you’re expecting a multiple birth, you may feel really heavy by now with pelvic pressure and backache.
Week Twenty Nine
The baby's head is in proportion to the rest of the body. Fat continues to accumulate under the skin. The brain can control simple breathing and body temperature control. The eyes are able to move in their sockets and the baby is becoming sensitive to light, sound, taste and smell.
You may be starting to feel uncomfortable. Symptoms or third trimester pregnancy can include:-
- Haemorrhoids
- Leg cramps
- Indigestion and heartburn
- Rashes and skin blotches
- Shortness or breath
- Aching muscles
Week Thirty
By now your baby weighs nearly three pounds. Lanugo is disappearing, the eyelids are opening and closing and the toenails are growing. Bone marrow is producing red blood cells.
By now you may be finding it uncomfortable to sleep. The best position may be on your left side with the pressure off the aorta, vena cava and heart. This enables blood to be pumped to the extremities with minimum obstruction.
