Surviving Trimester Two

Boy, Can My Baby Kick!!!

Well today I felt a small movement in my tummy which I first thought was wind, but gradually became more and more persistent. A quick review of the many baby books I seem to have accrued told me that this was my baby kicking.  As the days have gone by this feeling seems to have got stronger and I take great joy of knowing that my baby is there and making its presence felt.

Comments

I love my husband dearly but as my belly grows slowly I can do without comments on my breasts. I would so love to say that he had exclaimed at how big they are, but no, as mentioned previously the titty fairy has not blessed me yet. But what she has blessed me with are big blue veins that run at the surface of my breasts. I know these are prominent as Rich pointed out my “boobs have turned blue.” Anyone reading this who has not gone through a pregnancy will think I have gone mad; those that have will nod their head knowingly.

Half Way There

As I enter into my twenty week stage, it is still a shock as I wander bleary eyed into the bathroom first thing and catch sight of my ever growing belly, which reminds me I am pregnant. Although how I can forget when I am still going to the loo at least twice a night I do not know. I am sure this is nature’s way to get me used to unbroken sleep.

Twenty Week Anomaly Scan

Yet again, another chance to see my growing baby. As people keep telling me how small my bump is, I am a little worried as to whether everything is going ok, but this anxious feeling is soon quashed as I see my happy dancing baby on screen.

I will just tell you, if your scanner sits there very quiet do not worry as they are just having a good look around.  Once she was satisfied she took Rich and I through the complex life form we had produced. We got to see the four chambers of the heart, the kidneys, bladder and stomach, and everything looks just fine.

As usual our baby was not too happy to be on the screen and did various moves that would have won it gold in gymnastics, so much so we were not able to tell the sex. Initially we were keen to know but I have to say I am so glad we don’t as it will be a lovely surprise on its birth day.

Midwife Appointment

A routine check with the midwife has established for the second time I have glucose in my urine. My initial thought is gestational diabetes which puts the fear of god into me, but then my sensible head kicked. Of course there is glucose in my urine how could there not be when I could eat a whole pack of doughnuts in one sitting by myself and anything covered in sugar is what I crave.

For someone who has always eaten sensibly and healthy, I have turned into the dreaded junk food addict. I have never fancied Kentucky Fried Chicken but now it’s all I want and I have always had a savoury tooth but that has definitely been exchanged for a sugary one.

But I digress back to the midwife appointment, the midwife has told me that if glucose shows up again in a urine sample I will need a blood test to confirm everything is ok, great blood donation again !!!!!
