Birthday Timepieces
The birth of a new baby is a perfect opportunity to create a keepsake which will be appreciated as they grow older. This article looks at creating a “time capsule” of momentos and memories from the time of a babies birth for them to keep and cherish over time.
The most interesting pieces are those that date most quickly or even disappear. Try to think of everyday items that will change over time as a result of progress, technology or social change. Your time capsule might contain:-
- Collection of Post Office stamps
- Current set of coins
- Copy of todays newspaper – 1 broadsheet and 1 tabloid
- Video the days news
- Video popular tv programmes and advertisements that are typical of their time
- Pictures of family, friends and pets
- Pictures of the baby’s room
- The nursery and first toys
- Baby foot and handprints
- CD of popular music
- Weather forecast for that day
- Magazines pictures of current fashions, cars
- Letters and cards from family and friends
- Produce a family tree
- Plant a real tree
- Champagne cork
Put all the items in a robust box or container. Silica gel crystals will help to absorb moisture in the air and lavender bags will keep it smelling fresh and ward off moths
