How Long Does It Take To Get Pregnant?
- Fatigue. If you are pregnant, you may find yourself feeling exhausted during the first eight to ten weeks of pregnancy. This tends to wane around the twelfth week.
- Nausea and vomiting. If you are pregnant you may experience morning sickness as early as one week into your pregnancy. You may feel nauseous at any time, day or night. Sickness in pregnancy is not only confined to the mornings.
- Breasts and nipples feel tender and/or swollen. If you are pregnant you might find that your breasts and nipples become tender around three weeks after conception.
- Darkening areolas – in the early stages of pregnancy you may notice that your areola (the darker area that rings the nipple) begin to darken and increase in diameter. The veins in your breasts become more visible and Montgomery's tubercles, (tiny "bumps" that are scattered around the areola,) enlarge and may increase in number.
- Slight spotting or cramping. Light pink spotting when the embryo attaches to the lining of the uterus. This happens around eight to ten days following ovulation. Implantation bleeding will differ from menstrual bleeding. Implantation bleeding can be sparse, spotty, pink and not following the normal pattern of a menstrual period (light to heavy and then back to light bleeding.) Cramping can also be common in early pregnancy. This happens because the uterus is assuming a new position inside your body and is developing until it can be supported by the pelvis.
- Frequent urination may be experienced as the baby growing in the uterus put pressure on the bladder.
- Constipation as the extra hormones produced in pregnancy cause the intestines to relax and become less efficient.
- Raised body temperature: You may well be pregnant if your basal body temperature remains elevated even past the time your period is due and does not decline to preovulatory levels
- Missed period. This is usually the first sign that you might be pregnant.
- Positive pregnancy test. If your period is at least a few days late and you have experienced any of the symptoms listed above, you may want to take a home pregnancy test. A urine pregnancy test can be accurate as early as 10 to 14 days after fertilization. As home pregnancy tests are not completely infallible you may wish to follow this test up with a test by your GP
