Positive Signs of Pregnancy
A positive pregnancy test is one way of telling that you are pregnant. However, you’re body will give you other clues to look for.
- Positive pregnancy test. Home pregnancy kits are now sensitive enough to detect the hormones that are around during early pregnancy when your period is due. However, they are not one hundred per cent accurate. If you find that you are experiencing all the symptoms of pregnancy and yet your test is negative, it may be worth repeating the test a week later.
- No periods. This might seem obvious as the lining of the uterus is not shed each month. Instead it is used to nourish the embryo until it meets with the placenta. If you are used to light or irregular periods, it might be more difficult to identify when your periods have stopped.
- Fatigue. You may feel tired during the first weeks of pregnancy. Little jobs may seem like too much effort and you may find yourself falling asleep in the evenings. Try to get as much rest as possible.
- Nausea. Morning sickness isn’t always confined to the mornings so you may find yourself feeling sick throughout the day. Nausea occurs when your blood sugar drops so it can help to start the day with a cup of sweet tea and a biscuit and try to eat little and often throughout the day. The good news is that it has usually stopped by the sixteenth week.
- Breast Tingling. This might be similar to a feeling of fullness and sensitivity just before a period. When you are pregnant this feeling might be more persistant.
- Frequent need to go to the toilet. You may find yourself passing urine more frequently during the day as your body gets used to passing waste products from you and your baby that are in your blood. In the later stages of your pregnancy, you may also find yourself waking up in the night.
