Milk  & Dairy Products & Their Substitutes

What Do They Include?

Milk, yoghurt, fromage frais, cottage cheese, soya formula, (baby formula) hard cheese and tofu

How Do I Incorporate Them Into My Child’s Diet?

  • breast or formula milk plus other milk product such as yoghurt, then later:
  • breast or formula milk plus hard cheese cut into little pieces of finger food or included in a sauce

Carbohydrates

What Do They Include?

Bread, cereals, breakfast cereals, oats, plain and savoury biscuits, crackers, potatoes and yams, pasta, rice, millet and semolina

How Do I Incorporate Them Into My Child’s Diet?

  • introduce small amounts of baby rice or pureed potato, then later:-
  • introduce small portions of pasta, cereals and bread

Proteins

What Do They Include?

Meat, Fish, Eggs, poultry, lentils, beans and nuts

How Do I Incorporate Them Into My Child’s Diet?

  • Later only! Introduce well cooked and cooled mince or pureed meat, fish and pulses. Boiled egg can be served as a finger food

Fresh Fruit & Vegetables

What Do They Include?

Fruits and their juices, salad vegetables, green leafy vegetables, and root vegetables

How Do I Incorporate Them Into My Child’s Diet?

  • introduce any of the above as purees, then later:-
  • introduce pieces of small, soft raw fruit and vegetables including banana, melon and grapes. Cooked fruit and vegetables can always be coarsely mashed too.

Treat Food

What Does This Include?

Cakes, sweets, biscuits, ice cream, sugar, jam, honey, custard, desserts, crisps, fried and salty food

How Do I Incorporate Them Into My Child’s Diet?

  • just as the title suggests – as treats!
