The equipment needed to your baby’s nappy:

  • changing mat
  • clean nappy
  • nappy sack
  • cotton wool
  • bowl of boiled, cooled water

How Do I Change My Baby’s Nappy?

Step 1

Lay your baby on the changing mat, undo the nappy and use it to wipe any faeces away from your baby’s bottom.

Step 2

Clean your baby’s bottom with the cotton wool dipped in the water. Ensure that with a girl you wipe from front to back to avoid spreading germs. With a boy clean gently around the penis and do not pull on the baby’s foreskin.

Step 3

Slide a fresh, clean nappy under your baby’s bottom, at this point you may use a barrier cream if you so choose. Bring the nappy up to the waist and secure with the tabs.

Step 4

Put all the rubbish in a nappy sack and tie to prevent smells and place in the bin. Remember to wash your hands.

What Is Nappy Rash?

Nappy rash can be caused by the ammonia in their urine which irritates the skin. To help prevent nappy rash try to ensure that you change your baby’s nappy as soon as it is dirty. You can also use a barrier cream every time you change your baby’s nappy.
