What Is Miscarriage?
A miscarriage occurs if you lose a baby before 24 weeks of pregnancy. Miscarriage is quite a common occurrences with one if five pregnancies resulting in a miscarriage, normally in the first ten weeks.
What Causes Miscarriage?
There are many different causes of miscarriage ranging from:
- Ectopic pregnancy (Click on this link to read our related article about Ectopic Pregnancy)
- problems with the foetus
- genetic abnormalities
- blood disorders
- imbalance in hormones
- weak cervix
- Fibroids
Sometimes there is no explanation as to why the body miscarries.
What Happens When I Suffer From A Miscarriage ?
Normally there will be period-like cramps with some vaginal bleeding (although bleeding does not automatically mean you are miscarrying). If you think you are having a miscarriage contact either your GP or midwife immediately.
