Maternity Leave And Onwards

A Cure At Last!

Finally I have found the cure for my heartburn, unfortunately it has not been in any of the books I have read or on the computer, but a word from my friendly landlady at the local pub seems to have cured my problem. For some reason Gripe Water seems to work a treat, although whether or not you are meant to take it during pregnancy I am not sure, but if it means I do not spend the nights pacing the floor, I am a happy girl.

Maternity Leave

Oh how I have been counting down the days to being able to stop work and relax, unfortunately the reality has not lived up to the fantasy. I am incredibly bored being a lady of leisure does not seem to suit me (are you mad I hear you cry!!!) but its very uncomfortable moving me and baby around.

So what to do with myself now that I am off, unfortunately I have done most things, decorating the nursery, buying all the equipment, the only thing left to do is get a nursing bra.

Jordan Eat Your Heart Out!!!

I had been told not to get a nursing bra until a week before my due date as my bump needed to drop enough for them to do their measurements. Once in Mothercare I enlisted the help of a lovely lady to do my fitting for me. She started by doing the measurements and asked what size I had been pre-pregnancy.

Unfortunately I have never been blessed in the boob department and measure a very small 32C, so itwas with great surprise and excitement I learned that I was tobe fitted for the first and probably the last time with a 34DD. Double D I hear you cry, yes that is exactly what I thought…. A cleavage finally, not that my husband will be able to make the most of it as my boobs will probably be rock solid and very sensitive.

Birth Plan….

As I sit down to write my birth plan, I am aware that people have told me that you put down what youwant in an ideal world. I have always wanted a home birth and was very glad when my Midwife was very supportive of the idea. So with this in mind I begin…..

  • Water birth ( have ordered pool)
  • Just gas and air
  • Husband to cut the cord
  • As natural as possible – active birth
  • No episiotomyNo epidural (can’t have these at home)
  • No pethidine
  • No assisted delivery
  • If go overdue no induction.

The Pool

I have ordered my birthing pool from a company called Aquabirth.co.uk based in Hitchin. I found them on the internet and their pools fitted all my criteria. By ordering on the internet I managed to secure a good price and waited for the pool to arrive.

The pool was delivered by Fiona Marshall who owns the business and her three beautiful, very well behaved children. I was very surprised how easy it was to talk to Fiona and how comfortable she made me feel. She delivered the pool four days earlier than agreed and suggested I use it to relieve any aches and pains I might have.

As I am unable to use the bath as lying down on my back makes me feel faint, I filled up the pool and jumped in. This particular pool keeps the temperature at 37.5C and Rich and I totally enjoyed the pool, the only thing missing was a lovely glass of wine, which will wait till I have had the baby.
