Graduated Compression Hosiery For Pregnancy

The symptoms of pregnancy can include circulation problems. Different women experience different kinds of circulation problems. Water retention can lead to puffy or swollen ankles whilst other women may suffer with varicose veins. Being pregnant puts added strain on muscles, veins, and general circulation system.

For between five and twenty pounds it is possible to buy Graduated Compression hosiery. Graduated compression hosiery works by aiding circulation in the feet and lower legs and forcing blood back up towards the heart, by exerting gradual amounts of pressure on the leg. Most pressure is exerted at the feet and least pressure is exerted at the thigh. Graduated compression hosiery is not the same as support hosiery.

Support hosiery can be produced using a stretch nylon and do not have the pressure gradient described above. They do not improve blood flow.

Graduated compression hosiery will improve blood flow and can be supportive too. Check the label to see that the hosiery is manufactured with an mmHg (millimetres of mercury) which is a medical measurement of pressure,
