What Is Child Tax Credit?
Child Tax Credit provides financial support to families with children. The amount each family receive is based on their income. Families with children, with an income of up to £58,000 a year, will be able to claim something.
How Much Child Tax Credit Will I Receive?
- Child Tax Credit is worth up to a maximum of £38 p. week for the first child, £65.70 for tow children and £93.30 for three children
- the child care element of Child Tax Credit went up in April 2005. Families with one child now receive up to £175, whilst those with two or more can receive up to £300 a week towards the cost of childcare
How Do I Know If I Am Eligible To Claim Child Tax Credit
If you are responsible for a child then you can claim Child Tax Credit. The claim lasts until September 1st after his or her sixteenth birthday
- fill in a claim form and decide whether you would like to receive payment weekly or monthly
- contact the Inland Revenue if your family or financial circumstances have changed since you filled the claim form in or if they change in the future
- by keeping the Inland Revenue informed they can ensure that you are paid the correct amount of money. If your circumstances change, your entitlement may change too
What Sort Of Changes Do I Need To Tell The Inland Revenue About?
- if your living circumstances change
- if you go to live abroad
- if your child care costs change
- if your job details change
- if your income changes
- if the number of children you are responsible for changes
- if your child is over the age of sixteen
- if your, your partner or your childs disability benefits change
- if you change address
- if you stop receiving any other benefits
