Baby Showers

What Is A Baby Shower?

Baby Showers originated in the United States.  Their purpose is to celebrate the arrival of a new baby to be. They are typically held a couple of  months before the baby is due.  They are usually hosted by a close friend, family member or colleague. A mother-to-be might decide to host her own baby shower. Sometimes a welcoming shower is preferable to a pre-birth shower. This works well is guests are keen to bring gifts specifically for a girl or a boy, or if attendees are coming from far away and would like to see the baby during their trip

I’d Like To Arrange A Baby Shower. What Do I Need To Think About?

  • Select a date for your party – a weekend afternoon might be a good time
  • Choose a venue

Send out baby shower invitations – Baby Showers typically last a couple of hours. Talk to the mother-to-be to ensure that no one is left out. Traditionally men are not invited to baby showers but this is a personal decision

  • Decide on the baby shower party games
  • Decide if food will be served and if so choose your Menu – Will you do all the cooking? Will outside caterers be brought in? Will each guest be asked to contribute a dish?
  • Purchase baby favours for the guests.
  • Purchase prizes for game winners

What Style Of Baby Shower Works Well?

  • Shower For Mum – this works well if it is not the first baby and the family already have a lot of baby equipment. Instead the guests can bring gifts for mum, babysitting vouchers, bath products, pyjamas, spa vouchers and so on
  • Time Of Day Shower – each guest brings a baby gift that corresponds to a particular time of baby’s routine – bathtime, sleep time, mealtime, play time and so on
  • Anniversary Shower – each guest brings a gift that corresponds to the year of the babies birth – newspaper cuttings, photographs and so on
  • Basket Shower  - one basket fills with themed gifts, bathtime, play time, nursery baskets and so on.
  • First Time Shower – guest brings gifts to celebrate baby’s first experiences, baby’s first bath, baby’s first book, baby’s first shoes and so on
