What Is Childhood Diarrhoea?
Childhood Diarrhoea occurs when the bowels are opened several times a day, passing watery or runny faeces There can be a lot of wind and the faeces may be smell unpleasant. Diarrhoea may be accompanied by abdominal pains, nausea, and fever. All children will suffer from diarrhoea occasionally.
What Causes Diarrhoea In Babies And Children?
There are many causes for diarrhoea in babies and children.
- infection e.g gastroenteritis
- malabsorption problems where food isn't taken in through the gut properly e.g. food intolerance, cystic fibrosis
How Is Childhood Diarrhoea Treated?
- Give a rehydrating solution until the tummy settles
- If your small baby has diarrhoea, seek medical advice
