What Do I Need To Bath My Baby?

The equipment needed to bath your baby is:

  • baby bath
  • soft towel
  • bath thermometer
  • flannel
  • toiletries
  • changing mat
  • clean nappy
  • clean clothes

How Do I Bath My Baby?

Step 1

Start by filling your baby bath with cold water, then add the hot water. Keep testing the water temperature either with your elbow or the bath thermometer. Ideally you want the temperature to be around 38C or 98F. Don’t make the mistake of filling the bath too deep.

Step 2

Undress your baby on the changing mat and wrap in a towel. Lower your baby’s head over the bath and scoop water over the head. Ensure that once you have completed this that you dry the hair as babies lose a lot of heat from their head.

Step 3

Unwrap your baby from the towel, gently lower into the bath ensuring you support the head and shoulders. Using your free hand gently splash the water over your baby’s body.

Step 4

Lift your baby out of the water and wrap in a towel. Gently pat dry with a towel ensuring that you get into all the creases and folds of the skin. Once dry you can put on a clean nappy and clothes.
